Jay Marion, MD Endowment for Compassionate Care

The Jay M. Marion, MD Endowment for Compassionate Care was established by J. Richard and Nancy Jane Seale to honor Dr. Jay Marion. This award is intended to recognize a graduating medical student who best embodies the qualities exemplified by Dr. Jay Marion, specifically superb personal interaction, compassion, and the overarching effort to ensure hope and dignity to patients at their most vulnerable times and their families.

Jay M. Marion, M.D. is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport. He is a renowned medical oncology and palliative care specialist.

He obtained his medical degree, internal medicine internship, and residency from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1977. He went on to complete his fellowship in medical oncology at Washington University School of Medicine – Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

After fellowship, Dr. Marion joined the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine. In 2004, Dr. Marion joined the faculty at LSU Health Shreveport’s Feist-Weiller Cancer Center where he served in many roles, including Hematology/ Oncology Fellowship Associate Program Director and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. He was the inaugural holder of the Nancy Jane Sentell Seale Professorship in Palliative Care. Dr. Marion is an accomplished lecturer and has numerous journal publications and book chapters to his credit.
