Mini Med School at LSU Health Shreveport is back!
All sessions are open to the public will take place at the new Center for Medical Education located at 1365 Jennings Street from 5:30 – 7pm. See below for session dates.
The cost to attend is $40 and includes a white coat. Click here to see a size chart for white coats.

Topics
October 15 – What’s New at LSU Health Shreveport
This session will include an overview of recent accomplishments and changes at LSU Health Shreveport provided by Chancellor and Dean of the School of Medicine, David Guzick, MD, PhD. After the presentation, participants will tour the recently opened $79 M Center for Medical Education while learning about the new curriculum for medical students.
October 22 – The Science Behind Optimizing Your Mental Health Through Strategic Exercises and Mindfulness
This insightful topic will include a presentation from Mark Cogburn, DNP, PhD, APRN, LMFT, Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Student Counseling Center, Marie Vazquez Morgan, PT, PhD, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Institutional Wellness and Cole Endowed Professor in Community Health Initiatives and Angel Martin, MS, Director of the Fitness Zone. You’ll rotate through the Teaching Kitchen to learn the connection between diet and heart health and the Fitness Zone where you’ll learn and practice cardio enhancing exercises. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for a brief fitness session.
October 29 – Preparing for the Pandemics of the Future While Addressing Today’s Viral Health Challenges
Learn what steps are being taken by north Louisiana’s only academic health center to position our state for a rapid and robust response to the next pandemic while training the next generation of scientists and researching the viral challenges of our state. Hear from Jason Comer, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Director of the Biosafety Lab 3 Research Facility, Sadiya Parveen, PhD, Associate Professor in Microbiology and Immunology who was recently recruited from The John Hopkins and serve as staff in the Biosafety Lab 3 and Krista Queen, PhD, Director, Viral Genomics and Surveillance prior to touring the new Biosafety Labs and Training Center in the Center for Medical Education.
